Zao Jigoku Onsen is located in Oita Prefecture, where the flow of hot spring springs ranks first in Japan. It is one of the hot springs in Jigoku Onsen, a hot spring tourist attraction in Beppu City. Since ancient times, there has been a tradition of steaming sacrificial offerings with 90°C hot spring steam during major sacrifices at Zaomen Hachimangu Shrine, hence the name Zaomen Hell.
