Sengan-en is a historic Japanese garden and former residence of the powerful Shimazu clan, located in Kagoshima. Built in 1658, the garden beautifully incorporates the surrounding landscape, using Sakurajima volcano and Kagoshima Bay as part of its natural scenery. Visitors can explore traditional Japanese architecture, tranquil ponds, bamboo groves, and cultural exhibits that showcase the history and heritage of the region.
What to Expect
Senyan Garden, also known as Iso Garden, is a villa built in 1658 by Shimazu Mitsuhisa, the 19th lord of the Satsuma Domain. Shimazu Qibin, the 28th lord, also likes this garden very much, and even Atsuhime, who married the Tokugawa shogunate, once Visited here. In 1949, the Kagoshima government opened its doors to the public. You can see Jinjiang Bay and Sakurajima in the distance. You can enjoy cherry blossoms in spring and chrysanthemums in autumn. In addition, there are ancient buildings such as the Royal Palace in the park, and there is a Shanggu Integrated Building outside the park. It was originally a machinery factory and was built in 1865. Now it has been converted into a museum. Xianyan Garden is listed as a cultural property.
